How does it work
Sound needs three elements: a source that produces a vibration, a carreer environment that carries this vibration, and ears that receives the vibration.
This sound wave can be deformed, amplified or reverberate by the environment that it crosses.
The illusion
We all put our ear at a shell to hear the sweet melody of the waves.
This phenomenon is only possible because the shell functions as a sound box: it amplifies the sounds that come near its entrance. The phenomenon also occurs when we put our ear at a glass or a bottle.
However, what is interesting here is the association of ideas made between the shell and its natural habitat, the ocean.
I’ve chosen to take inspiration from this «story» that really marked my childhood to realize this piece of jewelry.
I wanted a piece of jewelry inspired by the shell without completely has its shape.
This evocation is reflected in particular by the mother-of-pearl inlay.
It’s a jewel that comes on the ear and distorts our sound environment.
